Online computer hacktivists collectively known as “Anonymous” are calling for a global day of protest this Saturday — and Twitter is in the group's cross-hairs.
“We are now prepared to take the fight to the world stage," declares a message posted in the recent days on the Anonymous website WhyWeProtest.net. "Join us on Jan. 15 for the first in a series of global protests in defense of WikiLeaks and freedom of expression. Stand with us to defend your freedoms.”
Meanwhile, you can take the Twitter out of New York, but can you take New Yawk out of the Twitter? Gothamist is reporting that a new study released by Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science shows Twitter is making it easier to detect regional dialects, and may be making those dialects stronger.
Want to regionalize your tweets? Blogger Melissa Bell advises you substitute "OD" for "very" to sound like you're from New York, "hella" if you want to hail from California.
