Lady Gaga first to reach 9 million Twitter followers

Monday, Lady Gaga's 25th birthday, the "Born This Way" hitmaker hit a Twitter milestone.

@Ladygaga became the fastest account on the San Francisco-based social networking site to have nine million followers.

When fans tweeted, "#bornthisday" in honor of Lady Gaga's birthday, she tweeted back:

"Thank you for trending #BornThisDay monsters! The sweetest tweet! You are all the present I need in the world. I'll be 25 in about 4 hrs!"

Lady Gaga has been an active tweeter since 2008.

#musicmonday - If God Was A Girl

Is God male or female? God is spirit. Spirit has no gender. Yet God is usually depicted as a man. I personally believe that God understands both men and women but is beyond gender. I view God not so much as a king on a throne, but rather a force or power or essence in the universe.

I've seen this video on other blogs. Obviously, somebody out there thinks that if God had a name, it would be Beyonce!

twitterology

When Twitter was first introduced in 2006, it quickly became the nexus for online conversation within the social web. Now, at five years of age, it has changed from functioning as a social network to becoming an information network. Twitter even refers to itself as a "real-time information network” designed to connect users to the latest information on topics of interest.

This begs the question, if the conversation is no longer taking place on Twitter, where did it go? You know the answer: Facebook!

A recent study from marketing agency Digital Clarity found that 80% of under-25s used a second screen to communicate with friends while watching TV and 72% used Twitter, Facebook or a mobile app to comment on shows.

As The New York Times puts the finishing touches on a metered paywall system that goes up March 28, cheapskate devotees of the news source are finding workarounds that will allow them to continue to read the paper for free, even after they've surpassed their allotted 20 stories per month.

Forbes reports the Times is attempting to stamp out the subversion attempts as they find them. One notable hole in the paywall is freeNYTimes, a Twitter account that's meant to link to every NYT story that posts. The account, which uses the NYT's own application programming interface to automate the process, lets readers vault over the paywall because the newspaper's system allows incoming links from social networking sites.

A Times spokesperson says the paper has asked Twitter to disable the account because it violates its trademark.

Twittering Harry Potter

The last in the series of Harry Potter movies will be released this year. I enjoyed the books and have enjoyed the motion picture series even more, especially watching and growing up with the characters!

Another actress from films has joined the ranks of Twitter.

Evanna Lynch (@Evy_Lynch), who plays the flighty-but-loyal Luna Lovegood, posted her first tweet this past Friday: “Here I am, reluctantly tiptoeing into the world of twitter at last…helloooo!”

She also cautioned followers that any previous Twitter/Facebook accounts purporting to be her are fakes.

Emma Watson has finally confirmed that she is the new new face of Lancome.Emma took to Twitter last week to hint, "A new venture is starting - what can it be? Follow my clues and you will see..."

Happy B-Day TWITTER!

Hard to believe that twitter has been around for half a decade! No one I know has been on twitter for 5 years, but the site itself just celebrated it’s 5th anniversary with this hilarious parody of a Ken-Burns-documentary on Funny Or Die. It’s the creepy dad from “Twin Peaks”!

Though many people believe twitter launched at SXSW, the service actually got its start nine months earlier – "to a whimper," co-founder Evan Williams writes on Quora.

Twitter’s 5th Anniversary Stats:

* 3 years, 2 months and 1 day. The time it took from the first Tweet to the billionth Tweet.
* 1 week. The time it now takes for users to send a billion Tweets.
* 50 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, one year ago.
* 140 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, in the last month.
* 177 million. Tweets sent on March 11, 2011.
* 456. Tweets per second (TPS) when Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 (a record at that time).
* 6,939. Current TPS record, set 4 seconds after midnight in Japan on New Year’s Day.

You can find more info on Twitter's blog. PC World examines some of its statistics, including this: there are one billion tweets issued per week. The Times of India has more fun with items like this: Lady Gaga has the most followers.

#musicmonday Girl+Guy+Guitar

Last week here on MM I presented three youtube selects for you. One was an a-capella performance by the Ronettes, who prove that TRUE talent doesn't need fancy production or scoring. While music critics have applauded Janelle Monae's works, her true talent (as well as her accompanist's guitar prowess) shines on this low-tech version of Monae's trademark "I'm an alien from outer space..." Recorded LIVE on a flip device at a Record Shop! I can watch this video a million times an hour!

Charlie Sheen, Twitter Star

Imagine having 2-point-3 MILLION followers on twitter! American TV star Charlie Sheen can claim those numbers! According to Gizmag's Mike Hamilton, "...A massive Twitter following is a sign of influence, so whatever you may think of him, Sheen is creating some serious value with his entertaining commentary on the entertainment world.

In the next few weeks Sheen will pass some of the best known publishing companies in the world such as Time, People, the New York Times and institutions such as the NBA. Odds are now being given on just where the climb will take Sheen. We've commented before that bookmakers are the best assessors of the probability this type of event occurring and Irish bookmaker Paddy Power current has very short odds of 11/4 that Sheen will have more than 10 million followers by year end."

TEN MILLION! WOW!

Celebrity Twitter Accounts Hacked!

Hard to believe! What could they have done to prevent this? If it can happen to them, it can happen to all!

Russian TV celebrity Tina Kandelaki Twitter accountRussian celebrities are not really that different from every other celebrity in the world in their hunt for PR. Logically, many of them quickly jumped on the Twitter bandwagon when they realized the PR power of it. Tina Kandelaki, a TV personality, is one of the most active Twitter users among Russian celebrities as she reports quite a number of her daily events to more than 50 thousand of followers. And today she has had her account hacked.

She's not alone:

The Future of Facebook

Although I am "the twitterer," I do keep an eye on other microblogging platforms and social networks. I have a very private Facebook account that I share with close friends and family only. Facebook has become a tool we have come to rely on. Much the same as we rely on Google to "search the web," we rely on Facebook to link up and hook up with people worldwide.

Have you ever wondered what the next big thing on the Net will be? Experience teaches us that no one really knows and no one can guess!

Can we be sure that Facebook will always be around? Venessa Miemis seems to think so... her new Kickstarter project which includes interviews with Om Malik, Rita J. King, Doc Searls, Sibley Verbeck and number of Internet philosophers and theorists. It's a provocative notion attempting to document the potential and speculative future of Facebook. What's intriguing is that the very existence of the project infers a belief that Facebook is a permanent, integrated part of our society!
